"The Dustlight showed our employees how important protection against dust is in certain areas of our production. We were able to make work processes safer and highlight the need for PPE."
- Samanta Miller, Managing Director of Habich & Miller GmbH Modell- und Prototypenbau.
Background
Habich & Miller GmbH Modell- und Prototypenbau, a company specializing in the processing of plastic blocks and sheets of different densities, has long relied on conventional methods to control dust pollution in production.
"The production line already had an extraction system, but the exact dust flow during cutting and milling remained unclear," explained Samanta Miller, Managing Director of Habich & Miller GmbH.
The challenge
The focus was on employee safety. The aim was to simply visualize where dust is generated in production and how much exposure there is, especially during the cutting and milling processes, where the greatest dust exposure occurs.
Solution
Mr. Habich, the former Managing Director of Habich & Miller GmbH, became aware of the Dustlight at the "Start-up trifft Handwerk" event in Munich. He was immediately convinced, as the Dustlight continuously measures dust levels and shows the values in real time in green, orange and red as well as numerically on the display. In the event of increased dust levels, the device also emits acoustic signals: a signal tone for orange values and three signal tones for red values.

Various settings can be made in the associated app, such as adjusting the limit values and acoustic signals.

Implementation in production
Ten employees of Habich & Miller GmbH were equipped with the Dustlight, which they wear discreetly on their clothing. During the production processes, such as milling the plastic panels, the Dustlight visually indicates how high the current dust exposure is. When the second limit value of the configured respireable dust is reached, the Dustlight displays a red color and emits 3 short acoustic signals, signaling to the employees that there is an increased A-dust concentration that is in a range that is harmful to health in the long term.
Results
The use of the Dustlight has significantly increased awareness of the need for PPE. Employees receive clear visual and acoustic feedback on where dust exposure is highest.
By using the device regularly, employees have adapted their working practices to ensure that PPE is always worn in hazardous areas where prevention through extraction equipment is no longer feasible.
Summary

The Dustlight has established itself at Habich & Miller GmbH as a valuable tool for improving occupational safety. It provides employees with clear guidance on where they need to pay particular attention to their health.
Thanks to its ease of use and durability, even during intensive production processes, the company remains convinced of the effectiveness and necessity of the Dustlight.
