FAQs
The Dustlight is an innovative, mobile dust monitor that has been specially developed for trade, industry and all workplaces where large quantities of dust are generated. It is designed to reduce the health risks of dust exposure and protect employees from the dangers of airborne particles. The Dustlight has a three-color traffic light indicator and a high-resolution display that signal the current respireable dust concentration and indicate to employees when appropriate protective measures, such as wearing a mask or activating an extraction system, are required. The device is robust, shock-resistant and easy to operate, making it ideal for use in harsh working conditions.
The Dustlight has been specially developed for trade, industry and all workplaces where dust is generated. It helps to reduce the health risks of dust exposure and protect employees from the dangers of airborne particles by providing timely warnings and recommending protective measures.
Every employee in dust-prone areas should wear a Dustlight permanently on their body using the enclosed clip or our accessories. The Dustlight is easy to operate with a single button and has an intuitive display that indicates the fine dust concentration in a language-neutral and easy-to-understand way. Green means that the air quality is OK, yellow indicates that caution is required and red warns of dangerously high concentrations of particulate matter above the limit value. The device has Bluetooth connectivity to our app, which provides access to past values and histories, as well as more detailed information on recommended protective measures.
A- Dust can cause significant health risks and lead to various serious illnesses, especially with prolonged exposure. The Dustlight helps to reduce the number of dust-related occupational illnesses by visualizing the invisible danger and showing employees when protective measures should be taken.
Respirable dust consists of tiny particles in the air that are in the size range of 4 µm and smaller, as these penetrate deep into the lungs into the alveoli and can lead to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and other health problems. The occupational exposure limits therefore relate to this size fraction, which is referred to as respirable dust. You can find more information here.
Yes, the threshold values can be adjusted using the app depending on the work and the type of dust present. The respective country recommendations are stored as default values. In the app, the set threshold values are also highlighted in color in the measurement history.
The Dustlight is not intended to be an alternative to personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks or dust extractors. Rather, it is a tool for monitoring air quality directly on the body and can therefore support risk assessment and the correct selection and use of PPE. Demand-oriented use can improve understanding and acceptance.
The Dustlight has a built-in rechargeable battery that is charged using the included magnetic USB cable. A full charge takes around 3 hours.
The curves can be shown both on the display of the device and via the app. The internal memory of the device is sufficient for around 6 months, and the values can be visualized over the entire measurement period by exchanging data with the app. In addition, the raw data can be exported as a CSV file for your own evaluations.
The information follows a three-stage traffic light system, red, yellow and green. Accordingly, there are two limit values, the lower limit value (green -> yellow) and the upper limit value (yellow -> red). Here we adhere to the workplace limit values valid in Germany. These are defined in the "Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances", TRGS 900. The "general dust limit value" is applied, which is 1250 μg/m3 (upper limit value) and 125 μg/m3 (lower limit value) for respirable dust. These values are preset, but can be adjusted via the app. It should be noted that these limit values are "shift averages", i.e. daily average values. Accordingly, brief exceedances are permitted, so a brief exceedance is not necessarily a violation of the occupational exposure limit values. You can find more information on the occupational exposure limit values and TRGS 900 in our
If your Dustlight does not light up green but is constantly yellow and red, you should first of all assume that there is a very high level of fine and invisible dust in the air. In this case, it was a very good decision to purchase Dustlight, as this pollution has not yet been noticed. Steps should now be taken to reduce dust, such as the increased use of machines with extraction, improved ventilation or the use of air filters. If you still assume that the appliance is faulty, move the appliance to a low-dust location such as in the countryside away from roads, in a car with the ventilation activated or in a sealed container with a lid such as a storage container. If the displayed value does not decrease, please contact us for maintenance and calibration of your device.
The Dustlight app is the digital platform for the Dustlight device. It makes it possible to view measurement data in real time and monitor it over longer periods of time. In addition to the live view, saved data can be evaluated, trends identified and exposure indicators such as TWA and STEL tracked. For transparent documentation, PDF reports can also be created that clearly display all relevant measured values, particle size distributions and events.
The Dustlight app is available in two versions: the smartphone app and the Web app:
- The smartphone app runs on iOS and Android smartphones or tablets. It connects directly to the device and is ideal for real-time measurements and daily use in the workplace.
- The Web app is accessible via any modern browser and is included in the business plan.
Upgrading your plan is straightforward. Simply contact us by phone, email or via our contact form. You will then receive an email from us with all the information and next steps to complete the upgrade.
Our PDF reports are designed to support internal health and safety documentation and ESG reporting. They include TWA and STEL values, particle size distributions (PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10), exceedance markers, compliance windows and a compliance summary.
